Holly Fest and Pumpkins

Monday, October 27th, 2008

We have had a busy weekend here in the Maravillas’ household.  Nana, Papa and Uncle Awesome were in town to celebrate Uncle Matt’s birthday (a week early). On Saturday we went to Holly Spring’s annual fall festival- Holly Fest.  It started out to be a yucky day but soon the sun peeked out and it was a really nice afternoon.  We wandered around the arts and crafts section and Nicholas got a sock monkey.  I am much more excited about it than he is though.  It sits in his crib with him in the hopes that one day he will notice him and fall in love like I have.  Then we had lunch and of course, Nicholas got to swing.

chowing down on some cheerios    Uncle Matt is a lot of fun!    Happy Birthday!

Today after everyone left, we took Nicholas to a gourd farm to pick out our Halloween pumpkins.  It was a small but pretty neat place.  We went on another hayride and Nicholas is still a fan.  This time the ride was through the surrounding woods and the owners decorated it up all spooky.  Nicholas really liked the ghosts and bats that hung overhead from tree branches.  They also had goats and a donkey to ride, but he was too little.  He did like watching the goats though.  We picked out a pumpkin for mommy and daddy to share then Nicholas got his own.  He will paint it this week since he is too little for a carving knife.  ;)

Nicholas has a fang!  Not really but if it were popped out more it’d look like one! This is his fourth tooth to come in.  So he has the middle two bottoms, the right middle top and then the left lateral incisor coming in.  And boy are they sharp!! He has left many tooth marks on his crib, and me!  Stay tuned for pictures.  He seems to be shy about showing off his new pearly whites.

Edited to add pictures!!!  Please excuse the peas on his face and boogers in his nose. :) I think there may be another one coming in on the side too.  Thank goodness for baby tylenol!

big smiles!    Look at those teeth!

Ride ‘em cowboy

Grandma and Grandpa put together Daddy’s old rocking horse for me to play with!  I love it and think I am super cool because I can hold on with one hand.  :)

Watch out world, Nicholas is on the move!

Please excuse my shocked exclamations about halfway through to video.  And his lunch-stained elbow as I was reaching to get shoes out of his way.  I can’t believe our baby is so mobile!!!  Seriously where is the pause button to this whole growing up thing?

top tooth and stairs

Nicholas’ top right tooth has finally cut through!  I am sure the other one will be close behind.  Our little snaggletooth! :)

Also, Nicholas scaled a whole flight of stairs by himself today!  I was behind him in case he tumbled and Matthew was ahead baiting him with a cell phone.  He pulled himself up each and every step with no help from either of us.  Our big boy! He was so proud of himself and of course got to reep the rewards of playing with the cell phone.  Man, he is growing up too fast!

stay tuned for pictures of that tooth and video!

Down on the farm

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

After a week of 85 degree weather, it has cooled down to more seasonable temperatures.  And to celebrate the fall season, we took Nicholas to a local farm.  We thought they had a pumpkin patch, but they didn’t.  So we still need to do that, but we had a good time with the tractor ride, corn maze and corn canon.  Yes, I said corn canon!  It is just what you’d think and it was awesome. I got so close to getting those ears of corn into the target bucket, but didn’t quite make it.

Nicholas thoroughly enjoyed the tractor ride and smiled a lot!

He and Matthew led the way through the corn maze.  He liked to grab the leaves as we walked.  It normally takes up to an hour to do the whole thing, but we took the ‘escape route’ after about 15 minutes!

They did have some pumpkins set up and other places for pictures, which of course we took advantage of! The one of him with the pumpkins is by far our favorite!

Enjoy and Happy Fall!

Picnic in the park

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Matthew only worked a half day today since it was technically a holiday.  So after Nicholas’ afternoon nap, we packed up and went to the park for a dinner picnic.  It was a lovely evening!  The weather was gorgeous and we all had a great time eating and playing.  After we ate, Nicholas played on the blanket with his cups and a water bottle.  Oh and you will probably notice a big red spot above his eyebrow in the pictures.  That was from him whacking it on the changing table earlier in the afternoon.  :(   Poor kid needs a helmet as much as he bangs his head.  Good thing he is my kid and comes from a long line of hard-headed people!

We could not leave without him taking a swing.  He loved it as usual! Today was such a nice change from the ordinary eating around the dining room table.  I love spending time together as a family.  And I just love my guys!

Sleeping Baby

Friday, October 10th, 2008

This is how little man fell asleep tonight.  :)   I am sure he’ll be all curled up with his knees at his chest soon.

I just realized that he is wearing the same pj’s as his last sleeping picture.  He does have more than one pair, I promise!

Mr. Personality

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Nicholas is certainly forming his own unique personality.  He knows what he wants and when he wants it.  Such as the phone or remote.  Not the old remote I took the batteries out of just for him to play with, oh no.  He wants *our* remote.  Smarty pants.  And Lord help ya if you take the object of his affection away or move it out of sight.  Oh boy does he get upset!  But 98% of the time he is a loving, happy go lucky little man.  Lately his facial expressions have been priceless and fortunately we’ve caught some with the camera.  Enjoy!

All ready for my body test!    If I smile will you let me be?    his new favorite position to sit    this is how he falls asleep for naps- OUCH    Really mommy, I am not going to get into trouble. I promise.    I love to swing!!    Driving my dump truck    what did you just say to me?!
