2 month check-up and general update

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Today I took Nicholas to the pediatrician for his 2 month well-baby appointment.  Here are his stats:

weight- 13lb 6oz    85th percentile

length- 24.25in      90th percentile

head circumference- 16.25cm    80th percentile

Dr. Simpson checked him all out and besides some eczema, he is a very healthy boy! Then came the icky part- his vaccinations.  A very lovely nurse came in and gave him three shots and an oral vaccine.  Nicholas was making the funniest faces with the oral one! The nurse was laughing so much. He kept choking on it, even though she was squirting tiny bits in his mouth at a time. Apparently he was not swallowing it and it would run down his throat and so he’d cough. She said that he was the youngest baby she’d ever seen do that… I said “yes, we have a stubborn streak in my family!”.  After a minute or two of snuggling, I laid him back down for his shots. I couldn’t watch and instead talked softly to Nicholas and held his hands.  Of course he wailed when she stuck him, but overall, I think I cried more than he did.  He was done fussing before the nurse even left the room.  I gave him some tylenol once we got home to help with the soreness and any fever that may occur (which is normal) but so far he is doing okay.  Seriously, I do not know what Matthew and I did to be blessed with such a good baby!  Oh and Sunday night, he rolled over! I don’t think he knew what he did but he did it! He has come close a couple times since, but hasn’t been able to do it again.  We’ll keep trying though.  Its still early for him to do that yet so its okay.

Yesterday we went to our first play group.  The girls from my prenatal water aerobics class have all kept in touch and now we get together with our babies. Again, Nicholas did great! He was awake and social for the whole thing, minus about 20 minutes when he napped in my lap. I think he had a good time watching and hearing the other babies.  They were all so cute!

We also celebrated Matthew’s birthday last night.  I made a special dinner and dessert and it was just the 3 of us.  This weekend our families are coming to celebrate too. It should be lots of fun!

Here are some of the latest pictures!

Love,

Nicholas and Mommy

Everybody loves Nicholas

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

We have had visitors the past couple of weekends to meet Nicholas (and I guess to see us too!).  Matthew’s best friend, Patrick and his wife Tina came last weekend all the way from Pennsylvania.  We had a good time with them and we all went out for some real eastern NC barbecue one afternoon.  Apparently you can’t get that up north! :) Then this weekend, Kathy and Jenny came to meet Nicholas.  They fell in love right away!

Last night was our first dinner out with Nicholas.  Between 5 and 7pm tends to be his fussiest time of the day so we had been hesitant thus far.  But we got brave and went out with Kathy and Jenny.  Fortunately we were pleasantly surprised.  He was so good!  He only fussed once or twice but calmed right down and just seemed to take in all the new sights and sounds.

This week we go for his 2-month well baby check up and his first round of vaccinations.  Then the family is coming down to celebrate Matthew’s birthday- which is Tuesday!  We’ll update soon, but in the meantime enjoy these pictures.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Wow, I am 6 weeks old already! Mom, Dad and I are celebrating our first Valentine’s day together as a family of three. We are all doing well. I had my first “sick” visit to the doctor on Tuesday. I have a rash on my neck but the doctor said its nothing to worry about, just a heat rash. He checked me all over and said I am a healthy BIG boy. I weigh 12lb 8.75oz! What is mommy feeding me, huh? :) I am wearing 3-6 month sized clothes already, but will probably go to 6 month sized sleepers soon because I am so long. I go back in two weeks to the doctor for my 2-month well baby visit.

Here are some pictures of me in my holiday-wear (thanks Nana and Grandma!). I smile all the time now but I get shy in front of the camera, but that doesn’t stop mom from trying.
