Update
We visited the pediatrician this morning as a follow up to his appointment on Saturday. Except this time we saw our regular guy, Dr. Powell. We LOVE Dr. Powell. He has such a way of putting me at ease and explaining things in a way that I can understand and not be freaked out. He listened long and hard to Nicholas and although he was “purring like a cat” his airway was a lot more open than over the weekend. So we can stop the regular nebulizer treatments and only do them as needed. The congestion in his chest is loosening up and he is working on getting it out but it will just take time. He has a cough that would frighten me if I heard another kid with it but at least it serves a purpose. He has developed an ear infection since Saturday so he got yummy bubble gum medicine to take care of that. His fever is back on and off due to that infection but otherwise he is doing okay. He is eating better and still playing but taking it easy. We tried to take a walk today and I think it was too much for him because he got upset and was clingy afterward. Slowly but surely I guess.
Dr. Powell and I talked a lot about what this means as far as future colds, etc. He did NOT want to diagnose Nicholas as having asthma. For several reasons, but especially because this is his first episode of wheezing and it was brought on by a nasty cold. I think his chart says something about ‘wheezing secondary to upper respiratory infection’. Turns out I had a lot of similar issues when I was a babe except I was admitted to the hospital numerous time for breathing treatments. Fortunately I grew out of it by toddlerhood, so chances are Nicholas will too. I swear I have so many other lovely traits for him to inherit besides a lousy medical history.

You have been taking such excellent care of your little man. The poor little thing has certainly had more than his fair share of ear infections and colds lately.
I’m glad Nicholas is on the mend and hopefully everybody will be getting some much-needed rest soon. I’m sure you’ve been up every night worried sick.
